My Favourite Vegetarian Cooks Books and Jim and I Quiz about Glastonbury!

Crazy Sexy Dieting

I decided I would try to lose a stone by my birthday in February. My previous weight-loss techniques have only been successful when coupled with heartbreak and considering Jim is still putting up with me I'm going to have to work a bit harder.

When you mention slimming to people everyone seems to have their favourite diet: "Go with Atkins - carbs are evil", "Do 'The 5/2', our primitive ancestors didn't eat every day you know" or "Don't eat after midnight or get wet", you know, the usual ones.

I find a lot of the standard diet plans tricky as I don't actually drink alcohol, tea, coffee or fizzy drinks in normal life anyway, and they are the first things you are recommended to give up. Plus I've vegetarian so I don't need to cut out fatty meats. My biggest problem is I LOVE carbohydrates - I don't think there is anything closer to Manna from Heaven as a roast potato. This is such food porn to me:

The best book I found for vegetarians that want to lose weight, or more importantly just to eat healthily is Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet and Crazy, Sexy Kitchen. She was diagnosed with a rare cancer years ago and she has kept it at bay through what food she decided to put, or not put in her body. It's mainly vegan and raw food and a really interesting read if you are vegetarian or not as this woman has BIG-TIME done her research. The general idea is that you put 'living' food inside you to power your body rather than essentially rotting food i.e. meat.

This week, I've cooked a few very healthy meals and eaten so many Nakd Bars that's I'm probably keeping their business going single handedly (n.b. that many dates and prunes have a predictable effect but they are just so good - hey it's all weight loss I guess :s) I have let myself relax at weekends a little but I'm not allowed to touch the biscuits at work - I'm teaching myself to like dark chocolate rice cakes over penguin biscuits.

Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey. Or penguin.
